How to Make a Password

Creating Sophisticated
Easy-to-Remember Passwords

A couple of years ago, there was an article in a local Georgia newspaper written by a gentleman who was explaining the best way to come up with a memorable but strong password. His suggestion was that you use your favorite song and you take the first letter from every word in that song and use it as your password. For example, if your favorite song was Mary Had A Little Lamb, you can take the first letter from each word in the song...

"Mary Had A Little Lamb, It's Fleece Was White As Snow"

...and turn it into your password.

"MHALLIFWWAS"

This is a very clever way to come up with a password. As you can see, it is long enough to be considered a strong password but it is based on something that is easy enough to remember, a song!Even with this awesome strategy, there are ways to make it a little better. For example, you can use the same exact strategy but instead of starting with "Mary" you can start with "Snow" and write the whole thing backwards.

"SAWWFILLAHM"

Also you may be concerned with the repetitive lettering like the double "L" and "W".  Not a problem. You can always replace those letters with their numeric position in the alphabet. For example, L is the 12th letter in the alphabet and W is the 23rd letter. You can use the numbers in place of the alphabet.

For example: "MHALLIFWWAS" can become "MHAL12IF23WAS"

You would either have to be an absolute genius or a person with some sophisticated software to figure out this code. The best part is, it is based on something simple. But what if you don't have a favorite song and you needed to use multiple passwords for multiple sites? Can you still use this strategy? Of course, not a problem. You can still use this method. It may not be as easy to remember but it will still be a clever way to come up with a password for each site.

Let's say you have an online bank account and a department store account. You don't want to use the same password for each account because your bank account is more important to you. Here is what you can do. You can come up with a phrase that relates to the online banking website. You may have to be sophisticated and unique here but you can still make a good password with this.If you have been banking at XYZ company for over 2 years, your memorable phrase can be...

"I Have Been Using XYZ Banking Services For Over Two Years"

and your password can be "IHBUXBSFOTY"

In this example, it is easy to add a number to the password because all you have to do is replace the word "two" with the number "2" If you would like to add a second number, the easiest thing to do would be to take the first letter and replace it with its numeric position in the alphabet. In this case, the letter is "I"which is the 9th letter in the alphabet. Your password would then read as follows:

"9HBUXBSFO2Y"

As you can see, once again, a password was created that looks like something difficult and complicated. It may be to someone else but to you, it would be nothing but a simple, easy-to-remember phrase. You can use this strategy with any song, or memorable phrase and come up with a password in no time.
